The government has set an ambitious target to create one million new jobs in the country's digital sector over the next five years, aiming to transform Bangladesh into a prominent regional hub for information technology and artificial intelligence. This strategic vision was articulated by the Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Fakir Mahbub Anam, while addressing the audience as the chief guest at the 'Bangladesh TechConnect 2026' conference held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka.
The high-profile event was jointly organized by the Posts and Telecommunications Division and global technology giant Huawei, drawing participation from senior government officials, policymakers, regulatory representatives, technology experts, and industry leaders from across the nation. During his keynote address, the minister emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to building a modern, technology-driven, and knowledge-based Bangladesh under visionary leadership.
Highlighting the critical need for reliable, secure, high-speed, and affordable digital connectivity in every corner of the country, the minister pointed out that achieving this requires comprehensive development of modern telecommunications infrastructure, enhancement of digital skills among the youth, attraction of foreign direct investment, and robust encouragement of domestic innovation and startups. He underscored the effective utilization of digital technology and artificial intelligence to accelerate economic growth, generate employment, and significantly boost national productivity.
At the same time, the minister drew attention to the paramount importance of cybersecurity, the protection of personal data privacy, and the responsible use of technology in an increasingly interconnected world. Stressing the necessity of collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors, he noted that a truly inclusive and competitive digital economy can only be built through the combined endeavors of the government, domestic enterprises, and international technology partners.
Industry experts and participants at the conference engaged in extensive deliberations regarding the current challenges and future prospects of Bangladesh's tech ecosystem, offering valuable recommendations to support the government's roadmap. Analysts believe that successfully executing this five-year digital strategy will substantially curb unemployment, foster a vibrant culture of tech entrepreneurship among the younger generation, and elevate Bangladesh's standing in the global technology landscape, ultimately attracting greater foreign investments.
