Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has raised serious questions regarding the role and accountability of law enforcement and intelligence agencies following the tragic and mysterious death of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tahsif Sauri. The party has strongly demanded a credible, impartial investigation to unearth the truth behind the incident, immediate arrest of those involved, and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators. Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar issued a formal statement on Thursday expressing profound concern and deep anguish over the former military officer's death.
Emphasizing the state's fundamental obligation, the Jamaat leader stated that ensuring the safety and security of every citizen is a primary duty of the government, and no one can evade responsibility for failing to uphold this mandate. He stressed that the state must ensure justice for the grieving family of Tahsif Sauri, whose body was recently recovered from the Turag River under suspicious circumstances, causing widespread public concern and agitation.
Highlighting what he described as gross negligence and failure on the part of law enforcement, Porwar remarked that the tragic death of a former air force officer severely undermines the credibility and operational competence of intelligence and security agencies. He asserted that these institutions cannot escape accountability for failing to protect a citizen's life. The family members had repeatedly communicated with Sauri before his disappearance, making the sequence of events leading up to the recovery of his body deeply alarming.
Furthermore, the Jamaat secretary general launched a scathing critique of intelligence bodies, alleging that agencies failing to safeguard a former military official often resort to spreading fabricated and baseless information against opposition political figures to mislead the public. He termed such diversionary tactics as ridiculous and unacceptable. The party has reiterated its call for a transparent, swift, and thorough judicial inquiry to determine whether there was any foul play or external involvement in Tahsif Sauri's untimely demise.
