A 35-year-old garment worker named Kartik Sheel was stabbed to death by muggers in Gazipur on Tuesday night. The incident took place in the Barabari area under Gacha Police Station of the city. Police later recovered his body and sent it to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Kartik was the son of Sushil Chandra Sheel, a resident of the Kunia Pachar Chowdhury Market area in Gazipur city. He worked in the finishing department of a readymade garment factory named Fashion Maker International.
Rakib Khan, the Gacha area coordinator of 'Bangladesh Youth Revolution'—an organization working against mugging, drugs, and other crimes—visited the scene immediately after the incident. He stated that after finishing his shift, Kartik was walking from his office in the Kunia Targachh area to his nearby rented home at around 11:30 PM. On the way, near an alley by Shahriar Garments, muggers intercepted and stabbed him. He was swiftly rescued and rushed to Tayrunnesa Memorial Medical College Hospital, where the attending physicians declared him dead.
Syed Sheikh Monir, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gacha Police Station, said that there is a stab wound on Kartik's left thigh. Preliminary investigations suggest that he died from stab injuries inflicted by muggers, and a full investigation is currently underway.
Investigators suspect that the muggers attempted to rob Kartik of his valuables, and when he put up resistance, the criminals grew enraged, stabbed him, and fled the scene.
