In a bid to further solidify its organizational base, the National Citizens Party (NCP) has officially launched a new affiliated wing named 'Jatiya Sebak Shokti'. The announcement of the three-member partial committee was made through the party's verified social media page on Monday evening, bringing several familiar faces from student movements and civic activism into prominent leadership roles.
According to the official party notification approved by NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossain, Md. Mahin Sarker, a former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and a Dhaka University student, has been appointed as the convener of the newly formed volunteer organization. Zobairul Hasan Arif has been assigned the role of member secretary, while Mohiuddin Rony—who gained nationwide prominence in 2022 by staging a unique solo protest against railway mismanagement and corruption—has been designated as the chief organizer.
The newly formed partial committee has been given a strict directive to formulate a full-fledged, comprehensive committee within the next fifteen days. This latest addition follows a series of professional and demographic wings previously launched by the NCP, including student, youth, women, labor, farmer, and rickshaw-puller organizations. Party insiders believe that the establishment of the volunteer wing will significantly strengthen grassroots mobilization and enhance the party's field-level operational capacity across the country.
Convener Mahin Sarker played a pivotal frontline role during the July mass uprising. When many prominent coordinators were forced into hiding or detained amid security crackdowns, Sarker and a few others bravely stepped forward, announcing crucial protest programs through video messages that rallied the masses. Following the political transition, he joined the NCP and served as its joint member secretary. Despite some subsequent political shifts, his new assignment places him back at the forefront of active national politics.
Political analysts observe that the NCP is strategically leveraging young, battle-tested organizers to expand its political footprint and build a robust institutional framework. By incorporating individuals with proven track records of public agitation and advocacy, the party aims to project a dynamic image. The ultimate success of Jatiya Sebak Shokti will depend on how effectively its leadership executes organizational tasks, maintains internal cohesion, and translates grassroots enthusiasm into tangible political influence in the days ahead.
